Reminiscences of Fire – When Memory Rises from the Ashes

Musée Beaulne, 96 rue de l’Union, Coaticook, Québec, Canada, J1A 1Y9

Isabelle Jean

International recognition: Freshly awarded a medal in Paris, the artist Isabelle Jean takes up residence at the Beaulne Museum..

The exhibition is a sensory and symbolic immersion into the layers of memory, roots, and rebirth. Drawing on her experience as a veteran and her deep roots in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, this project explores what remains after loss, what is reborn in the crucible of hardship, and how our memories—individual and collective—become intertwined with the material world.

Through sculptures, installations, frescoes, paintings, and sound, « Réminiscences de feu » – Reminiscences of Fire, becomes a ritual of reactivation. An invitation to see in the embers what can still shine. To honor the ancient voices that dwell within us. To welcome our memories, painful or fertile, like so many inner flames ready to illuminate the future.

Isabelle Jean is a visual artist whose intuitive practice is rooted in a sensitive relationship with matter, where transformation and traces of time intersect. A graduate of Cégep of Jonquière, she has developed an approach guided by gesture and listening to the material. Very active on the art scene, she participates in numerous events in Quebec and internationally, as well as various symposiums and group gallery exhibitions. A former member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 21 years, she infuses her work with a rigor and depth marked by this experience. An approach where gesture gives voice to matter and its memory.

Opening reception Sunday, May 17th, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
